You haven’t experienced golf in Virginia until you’ve walked the fairways of Army Navy Country Club. A pinnacle of tradition and a test of skill, this course will reward the well-placed drive and penalize the errant shot. Greens are lusher than the rolling hills of Ireland. The fairways? Like carpet. The course layout demands a level of strategic thinking beyond just “whack and watch”. And, can we just talk about the 5-star clubhouse? Spotless and full of old-world charm. Customer service though? Quite the flip of the coin. Some staff were pleasant, some not so much. The pace of play, however was more rushed than a New York minute.

A stellar course! The greens were in superb condition and the manicured fairways might as well have been shipped straight from Augusta. Course layout offers a lively mix of par threes and challenging par fives. But boy, the 7th hole’s sand trap is a beast. Also, the clubhouse? Swankier than my living room. Not that hard to achieve, but still commendable. Service was top-notch, but pace of play was slower than my grandma’s Sunday drives. More marshals needed perhaps?
